MAYOR LILLIE THOMPSON MARTIN

 

Lillie-Thompson Martin was born in Washington, D.C. in 1947. She moved to Fairmount Heights at an early age. She attended Fairmount Heights Elementary School and Fairmount Heights Hight School. She graduated from High School in 1965. Immediately after high school, she went to work for the United States Postal Services. While employed at the Postal Service, she began her college education. After much dedication and hard work, she graduated in 1977 with a degree in Sociology (B.A.)

In 1990, Lillie Martin was elected to the Town Council of Fairmount Heights after serving for a few years as secretary of the Civic Association. Mrs. Martin has always worked with programs beneficial to the Youth of the Town. Even today, youth are an important part of her agenda.

Through tick and thin, Mrs. Martin had maintained her dedication to the Town of Fairmount Heights. In May 2003, Lillie Martin was elected as the Mayor of Fairmount Heights, a job that has greatly broaden her horizons and enriched the development and prosperity of our Town. Mayor Martin bridges the gap between the Town and its youth on a daily basis by working as a substitute teacher a Fairmont Heights High School.

Mayor Martin is a very active member at Michigan Park Christian Church, Washington, D.C. She is a member of the Music Ministry, the African Committee, Women’s Day Committee and a Birthday Cluster Leader. Mayor Martin is married to Mr. James Martin and is the mother of two.
